Hugh Mendes

Hugh Mendes graduated from City & Guilds of London Art School with MA Fine Art in 2001 having completed his BA (Hons) Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art & Design, London in 1978. His work is placed in prominent private collections globally. Mendes is best known for his obituary paintings that combine trompe l’oeil renderings of image and newspaper copy, especially those of historical and contemporary artists. He has also made more overtly political work throughout his career. Mendes’ work on paper provides an intriguing insight into his working process, combining collage, drawing and digital techniques.
