Jo Dumpleton

Hertfordshire based Jo Dumpleton studied Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, London. Having experimented with various drawing styles she became absorbed by intricate, finely rendered pencil drawings. Made at small scale, they are delicately intimate. Inspired by 18th century portrait miniatures and the black and white musical sequences of Busby Berkeley, Dumpleton focuses on portraits, specifically using antique photographs as source material. Either full bleed or adroitly cropped, Dumpleton’s work is alluring, nostalgic and borders on the uncanny.
